Honored Alumnus - 2004

Beatrice J. Lyles - Outstanding Alumnus - 2004

Beatrice (Hollandsworth) Lyles was born January 14, 1924 in Sperry, Oklahoma. Bea graduated from Sperry High School in 1941. She is a member of the First Baptist Church and has lived the majority of her years in Sperry.

She comes by her sense of community and willingness to help through her family. Her father was very active in the community. He served on the school board for Sperry Public Schools and was the mayor of Sperry for many years. Bea served as a homeroom mother for 23 years and was a Sperry Booster Club member.

Bea retired from the United States Postal Service in 1989 after twenty-nine years of service. She worked in the Sperry and Tulsa Post Offices where she held various positions.

After her retirement she worked as a volunteer at Sperry Schools, helping first grade students learn to read, understand math, spelling and being a proxy grandmother to many. She has continued to offer her services to the community in a variety of ways including membership in the Sperry Merchants, where she serves as secretary/treasurer, Kiwanis (Charter member and past president), and member of the Ma-Hai-Ya Club (past president).

Bea enjoys traveling and attending sporting events and can be seen at many school functions. She enjoys watching basketball and attending as many games as she can. Bea states that "being active keeps her young."
