Washington
Elementary School was constructed in 1917. It was
situated on the present day site of the RLDS
Church between 1st and 2nd Streets on Main. The
two story building contained nine classrooms and, despite it's age,
was considered to be modern and well-equipped even
in the 1950's. According to records, the building
was equipped with one slide projector, one
duplicating machine, one record player, a film
strip projector and more than 100 film strips.
Washington Elementary was condemned in 1957. The
new Sperry Elementary School was constructed in
1958. Washington Elementary was demolished
in 1961. |
